Fondato nel 1726 con il nome di teatro di Santa Lucia, subì diverse ristrutturazioni: la 1° nel 1808 quando fu ampliato per opera di Nicolò Puglia e cambiò nome in Reale Teatro Carolino. Inaugurato nel 1742, fu concepito e realizzato interamente in legno e poteva ospitare 500 spettatori: fino alla metà dell’800 era considerato il più importante teatro della città. Oggi,intitolato nel secolo XIX al celebre compositore catanese Vincenzo Bellini,può ospitare meno di 300 persone.
