Le prime notizie riguardo a questo antico edificio religioso risalgono alla fine del IX secolo, anno 899. La chiesa ha poi subito, nel 1297, una ricostruzione e altre varie modifiche come l’edificazione del porticato (secolo XVII) e il rinnovamento della navata (1740). Un restauro importante è stato effettuato a seguito del terremoto del 1920. Una lastra in marmo posta nel lato sud è datata 1297. Il campanile, databile al XIII-XIV secolo, è stato restaurato nel 1959.
