Sono quindici le borgate che formano Sappada, tutte costellate dalle tipiche case in legno costruite con la tecnica detta ” a blocco” tipica dell’architettura rurale locale. Il legno costituisce un’identità importante per il borgo: il simbolo della città sono infatti le maschere in legno usate durante Carnevale. Cappelle colorate dai tetti a punta, crocifissi lignei e chiesette sono sparse per tutta la zona, circondata dai massicci delle Dolomiti.
