L’architetto Santiago Calatrava ideò negli anni ’90 la stazione con una struttura particolarmente innovativa. I materiali utilizzati durante la costruzione sono acciaio e cemento. Nel progetto vennero inserite delle porte a ribalta, utilizzate per chiudere durante la notte la stazione.
