Shin-Yakushiji è un tempio piccolo e poco turistico, ma che vale una breve sosta. Fu costruito tra il 710 e il 794 per volere dell’imperatrice in onore dell’imperatore molto malato. Per questo motivo qui viene venerato il Yakushi Buddha, dio della medicina giapponese e nella sala principale è possibile ammirare la sua statua fatta in legno alta due metri. Intorno ad essa sono disposti 12 guardiani in argilla ognuno con un’arma differente.
